Course: Computational Science

If you choose this field, you’ll learn how to use complex calculations to help solve problems in science and engineering. You’ll explore math-based computer science techniques like algorithms, sets of step-by-step instructions followed by computers to perform specific functions. Another area of study is scientific visualization -- using the computer to display real or simulated data. Visualizations might illustrate, for example, the structure of a molecule, the arrangement of moon craters, or the dynamics of space weather. Courses cover applied math, parallel computing, and modeling and simulation. You might combine your study of computational science with a specialization or major in a basic science or engineering.
